Female genital mutilation and child marriage are serious violations of the fundamental human rights of girls and women. It affects the sexual and reproductive health and rights of girls and women, posing threats to their bodily integrity. Survivors of FGM often have lifelong health challenges such as physical, sexual and psychological problems. Due to the unequal power relations between boys and girls, and men and women, FGM continuous to be perpetuated against girls and women in our communities. Child and forced marriages underpin girls’ and young women’s equal access to education, health and wellbeing. Evidence has shown that girls who marry early are more likely to undergo domestic violence and are more prone to maternal death than those who marry as adults. To end these harmful traditional practices, TGA believes that young people need to be at the center of programming and we engages in educational and advocacy campaigns, capacity building, community engagement and social media campaign.
