Oumie brings in her ten years of experience in the nonprofit and voluntary sector working for and with underserved groups and communities to volunteer as The Girls’ Agenda’s Partnership and Networking Manager. She is a co-founder of the organization and has lead since its inception. She is a passionate advocate for girls and women’s rights and has been demanding for investment in their education and reproductive health for many years.
Prior to founding TGA, she worked with the Nova Scotia Gambia Association, a nonprofit group that works on health promotion in schools and communities for nine years. In her engagement with NSGA, she focused on adolescent development through peer education, mentorship and leadership skills transfer to keep vulnerable girls in school. She also briefly served with the Network against Gender-Based Violence advocating for the elimination of violence against women and all forms of discrimination by targeting policy-makers and religious leaders.
She currently works full time with the National Disaster Management Agency as Director of Operations and coordinates the institution’s projects and serve as liaison with partners and donors. She has immense experience in partnership and networking which she is using to strengthen TGA’s partnership and resource mobilization.
Because of her commitment to the advancement of the status of women and girls in her country, Women Deliver awarded her the “Global 100 Young Leaders Award” in 2012. Oumie was a twice Carnegie Council for Ethics in Global Affairs Fellow and conducted researches on women’s human rights in global politics.
She is the current Vice-Chairperson of the Network against Gender-Based Violence executive board representing The Girls’ Agenda. She once served as a board member of the Fashion Redefining Justice, a US-based group that supports adolescent orphans and vulnerable children. Currently, she is serving as an adviser to this group. Oumie’s dedication in ending FGM has landed her an opportunity with The Girl Generation as a National Ambassador to end the practice.
These experiences and commitments combined enables her create strategic alliances for TGA by connecting and sustaining relations with donors, partners and beneficiaries.
She graduated with Master’s in International Studies from the National Chengchi University in Taiwan and has a BSc. (Hon.) in Political Science and Development Studies from the University of the Gambia.
