Matida Komma serves as the Coordinator of The Girls’ Agenda and provides strategic leadership and direction to the executive committee of the organization.

Matida is a passionate advocate for the rights and welfare of women and girls, has almost nine years of experience in advocacy and human rights work. Previously, she held the position of Regional Coordinator at the Nova Scotia Gambia Association, a non-profit organization that works on adolescent health in schools and communities.

She started her advocacy as a Peer Health Educator while at school sensitizing her peers on key health issues such as malaria, reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections including HIV/AIDS using different approaches like drama, community outreach, and classroom presentations amongst others.

Her passion for working with people of different backgrounds makes her a flexible leader yet strong and astute who always motivates her team to deliver for women and girls.

She is a co-founder of The Girls’ Agenda and through these years of community engagement and advocacy, Matida showed immense commitment to the equality of girls and boys, and progress of the young people of her society.

She has mentored and trained several girls and young women in her community and has profound experience in adolescent health promotion, sexual and reproductive health rights, and empowerment of young people.

Matida holds a Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies and Economics from The University of The Gambia and certificate in Civic Leadership from Wagner College, Staten Island, New York. She is a Mandela Washington Fellow and has participated in the 2016 flagship program of President Obama’s Young African Leadership Initiative.
