Mariama Barry is a chartered accountant with more than five years of experience. She received trainings on accountancy and business management from the Management Development Institute and Gambia Technical Training Institute, thus affiliating her with the Association of Business Executives and Association of Accountant Technicians. She is currently pursuing a degree on accountancy from the University of The Gambia. As a survivor of FGM in a predominantly non-practicing community, at a very tender age, Mariama had to develop coping skills to protect herself from shame and rejection affiliated with FGM. This period became a defining moment in her life as she dedicated herself to reject all forms of stigma associated with FGM, whether one is a survivor or not. She joined The Girls’ Agenda as an interested women’s rights activist and supports the organization manage its resources in the most efficient manner.
Other than her volunteer work with TGA, she works with the National Disaster Management Agency as a Finance Assistant. She is a reliable and trustworthy individual who exceptionally ensures that project resources are fully guided in the best interest of our programs. Mariama has great analytical skills, cares about details, excellent communications and negotiation skills. She has ample experience managing projects of the UN system in the Gambia, NGOs and other bilateral donors. These skills enables her to improve resource management and to maximize results.
