Isatou volunteers as the Communication Manager leading The Girls’ Agenda’s new communication initiatives and enhancing digital presence and social media activities. She brings in a decade of experience in community organizing and advocacy for gender equality and girls’ and women’s sexual and reproductive health rights. She leads the team in developing effective communication strategies and ensures TGA’s advocacy messages are broadcast around the world and advance the mission of the organization.
Isatou previously served as the Senior Program Officer at the National Council for Civic Education of The Gambia where she led the programs team and educated Gambian citizens on their constitutional rights and civic duties, and responsibility to hold the government accountable, and promoted women’s political leadership in The Gambia.
Prior to NCCE, she was a Freelance Writer with the Foroyaa Newspaper covering women and children’s rights, youth development and governance issues. Isatou also worked at the National Youth Service Scheme as Public Relations Officer where she strengthened the institution’s communication and networking with the media, public and private sector, and provided mentorship and training for corps members on communication, public speaking and leadership.
She currently lives in New York City and works with the National Network for Safe Communities, a project of John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Since moving to NYC, Isatou held internships with various women’s advocacy organizations including Women Deliver, Ms. Foundation for Women and the YWCA of the City of New York.
She is a Women Deliver Young Leader in the class of 2016 and is very passionate about advancing girls’ and women’s sexual and reproductive health rights and strongly believes in meaningfully engaging young people to amplify their voices to build the future they want.
Isatou earned her Master’s in International Studies from the National Chengchi University in Taiwan, and holds a BSc. in Political Science and Development Studies from the University of The Gambia and a Diploma in Journalism from the Gambia Press Union School of Journalism.
